This book is written by Sir E A Wallis Budge, the author of many other works of ancient myths. At first, he informs us where he and other schollars found the tablets or fragments of tablets of which he will write in this book. Most of the artifacts were found in different parts of Nineveh. Then, we are introduced to The Story of the Deluge, which is included.in The Epic of Gilgamesh. The remaining part of the book is dedicated to the famous epic mentioned above; Budge gives us his translation of Gilgamesh's deeds and journey in order to find eternal life. The translation is a bit short, but it is pretty clear for someone who hasn't read it until now.

The Babylonian Story of the Deluge as Told by Assyrian Tablets from Nineveh British Museum Dept of Egyptian and as E a Wallis Ernest Alfred Walli Budge 9781360493442 Books Reviews

I found it difficult to follow and understand a lot of what was written. It was interesting to read about the deluge from another perspective. It was worth reading.
A description of the clay tablets unearthed in the late 1800's. Includes the story of Gilgamesh. The history part is interesting, but the stories themselves are a little difficult to read. Still worth some time to review if you are interested in the historical aspects of the Flood.
Good historical reading
When I was a child I believed the Genesis account of Noah and the flood. But at some point one has to make the choice between faith and fact. I chose scientific fact even though it was uncomfortable doing so. Now, after facing realities and scientific writings such as reflected in the E. A. Budge book, I have an understanding that makes sense to an adult. The amazing history of the deluge is just as riveting as the Noah version, maybe even more so. The flood experience must have been one of awe and terror to those who saw it and survived.o
A fascinating and enlightening perspective on the Great Flood that is understood by virtually all ancient cultures, yet unknown to most in modern Western "Culture," outside of the Old Testament story of Noah.
This short, readable booklet is not a full translation work. It tells about finding tablets in ancient Nineveh in the 1800s. It then gives a translation of the account of the Flood (not sure if it is the full story or a portion). It also gives an easy-to-read summary of the story of Gilgemesh, including occasional portions which are translations rather than only a summary. Nice if you want a summary; not so good if you wanted to read the full work in an English translation.
There are two problems. The first is that this text is old, as in 19th-early 20th century. This means that the translation sounds like the King James Version of the Bible, which was considered to be appropriate for older, somewhat "religious" texts. It grates on my ears. The second problem is that the original was illustrated. This version isn't but the captions are still there but not identified as such which breaks up the flow of reading. All in all, though, the text is useful and gives a very good introduction to the subject. Just don't expect it to be the final word on the subject.
